NEW CLIMBING ROUTE WITH SPECTACULAR VIEWS OPENS ON VELEBIT MOUNTAIN

In July 2024, a new protected climbing route named Via Ferrata Bat was inaugurated on the 1,402-meter Crnopac massif, situated in the southernmost part of the Velebit mountain range. This addition offers climbers panoramic views over the regions of Lika and Dalmatia. The route is equipped with steel cables, steps, and ladders, providing a safe and exhilarating experience for climbers. The opening ceremony was attended by Zadar County head Božidar Longin and Velebit Nature Park director Mario Šaban, who were among the first to ascend the route. The project was part of the “Cerovac Caves Excellence Centre” initiative, aiming to promote the largest cave complex in Croatia, located nearby. Climbers are advised to use appropriate climbing gear and can find the GPX track for the route online to aid in navigation.
