HARNESSING COMFORT AND SAFETY: A BUYER’S GUIDE TO CLIMBING HARNESSES

20. May 2025 Buyer's Guide Gear

Your harness is your lifeline—literally. Here’s how to choose one that fits your style and body.

A good harness balances:

Comfort (especially for hanging or belaying)

Fit (check leg loops and waist belt)

Gear loops (4 is standard, more for trad climbing)

Adjustability (useful if layering clothes or sharing gear)

There are harnesses designed for:

Sport climbing – lighter, minimal padding

Trad climbing – more gear loops

Alpine – lightweight and packable

Always try it on and hang in it if possible.
