Buyer's Guide Gear
Carabiners are more than just metal loops—they’re key safety tools. Learn the types and when to use them.

There are three main carabiner types:
Screwgate/Locking – for belaying, anchors, personal attachment
Non-locking – for quickdraws and racking gear
Auto-locking – safer for beginners but bulkier
Look for:
Shape: HMS (pear-shaped), D-shape, Oval
Weight and strength: Marked on the spine (e.g. 24 kN)
Smooth gate action and keylock nose for easy clipping
Having the right carabiner in the right place matters for both safety and ease of use.
